International Certification Authority
Malaysia (JAKIM)
As Malaysia is a Muslim country, halal food certification is an essential reference for choosing products imported to Malaysia. Since September 1, 2002, the Government of Malaysia has delegated halal certification for food and Islamic consumer products to the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia, JAKIM) under the guidance of the Office of the Prime Minster. JAKIM's Halal Hub Division is responsible for the standardized supervision and management of the production processes of halal products in Malaysia and for the issuance of halal certificates to qualified manufacturers.
Indonesia(MUI)
ndonesia has a population of 245 million people, behind only after Mainland China, India and the USA. It is the biggest economy in Southeast Asia. 86.1% of its population, i.e. more than 200 million people, practices Islam. Indonesia has the largest Muslim population of any country in the world. The Indonesian Council of Ulama (Majelis Ulama Indonesia, MUI) is in charge of national religious affairs and international halal certification bodies approved by MUI. Under its guidance, the Assessment Institute for Foods, Drugs And Cosmetics (Lembaga Pengkajian Pangan, Obat-obatan dan Kosmetika, LP POM) is responsible for halal food certification in Indonesia. In early 2017, the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MORA) will set up the Halal Product Assurance Implementing Board (Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Produk Halal, BPJPH), the official and only halal product certification institute in Indonesia. Its implementing regulations will be formulated as references for actual performance before October 2019.
Singapore(MUIS)
Similarly, the Singapore Government has entrusted halal certification to a semi-official institute, the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Majlis Ulama Islam Singapura, MUIS). Sharing its high administrative efficiency with the government, MUIS has adopted an E System, which is rated as the most efficient halal certification system in the world. MUIS focuses on Singapore's superior conditions for business and tourism, and has long since promoted halal certification for the tourism and hospitality industry, thus gaining considerable tourism and business opportunities. MUIS's education training curriculum has also performed with great efficacy, which sets a worthy example for Taiwan to learn from.
